1 October 2024 is the 30th anniversary of the World Wide Web Consortium, where HUN-REN SZTAKI has been a member for over 25 years. W3C dedicated a special section to W3C@30 at the annual TPAC (Technical Plenary and Advisory Committee) conference held in Anaheim, CA, USA. The Consortium celebrated three decades of W3C and of advances in the Web, demonstrated the incredible impact of W3C standards on the world, imagined the possibilities for the next 30 years of the Web, and enjoyed an authentic evening of talks and a gala.

HUN-REN SZTAKI Department of Distributed Systems (HUN-REN SZTAKI DSD) carried out the compliance assessment regarding PIDs on the ARP repository using the EOSC Compliance Toolkit (CAT) in the frame of a FAIR-IMPACT EU project. Based on the findings, HUN-REN SZTAKI DSD has enabled further developments in ed and improved the system regarding PIDs management in ARP, and also made suggestions on how to improve CAT usability. As the result of the assessment, a toolkit has been created to check the operability of ARP registered PIDs, that is vital to ensure that the ARP repository system will fulfill the requirements of EOSC Compliance.

The BVDA (Big Data Value Association) held its annual conference, the European Big Data Value Forum 2024, in Budapest, Hungary, from 2 to 4 October 2024. The EBDVF is the flagship event of the Big Data Value Association, bringing together the entire European data-driven AI research and innovation community to share knowledge, collaborate and celebrate achievements. The EBDVF 2024 is a collaboration between the European Commission and local partners including MILAB coordinator institute HUN-REN SZTAKI, Eötvös Loránd University, Ideal-ist and the Neumann Technology Platform.

In the framework of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, TechWeek, a major Presidency event was held between 30 September and 1 October 2024 with the participation of the Ministry for National Economy of Hungary, focusing on the advanced and emerging technologies that define our virtual and non-virtual lives.

The HUN-REN SZTAKI coordinated Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory (MILAB) also participated in one of the biggest AI-themed business conferences of the autumn, the AI Summit.

A delegation from the Chinese Institute of Science and Technology Information (ISTIC), a backbone institution of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, visited our Institute, organized by the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and the Budapest office of Ningbo CEEC Innovation Center.

The Institute welcomed visitors with more than ten programmes, including a robot dog demonstration, self-flying drones and the 50th anniversary of the microprocessor revolution.

Over the summer, the 17th Students' Forum, or the regular scientific gathering organised by the research group of Zsolt János Viharos and his partners, took place. As part of the programme, the ZalaZONE Automotive Test Track hosted the researchers. The first forum was organised more than five years ago, on 30 April 2019, by Zsolt János Viharos, Senior Research Fellow of the Research Laboratory of Engineering and Business Intelligence at HUN-REN SZTAKI. He and his students have been holding regular scientific meetings since then.
