Csaba Antal Dénes
Introduction
Csaba Antal Dénes is a research associate at the Systems and Control Laboratory, working in a development position. His research focuses on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and satellite-based quantum communication systems, with a central emphasis on the development of a high-fidelity quantum communication satellite simulation framework in MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape environments.
He is a Space Engineer, among the first cohorts of graduates of the Hungarian space engineering program, having received his diploma with honors in January 2025 from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), MSc in Space Engineering.
His undergraduate degree (BSc) is in Electrical Engineering, obtained in 2022 at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, specialization in Automation and Applied Informatics. At the same institution, he also obtained a teaching qualification by completing the university’s Level I Teacher Training (Pedagogical) Module.
He has been a research associate at the HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control since 2024. Alongside his professional work and university studies, he consistently seeks opportunities for continuous development, the promotion of research activities, and the practical application of his work.
In 2025, he participated in the European Space Agency and ESA Academy Satellite Communication Systems Training Course in Belgium. In the same year, together with his current and former colleagues (Dániel Balogh and János Bezsilla), he won the Hungarian national round of the NASA Space Apps Challenge with his current research topic, and the project advanced to the international round.
In addition to his daily professional activities and continuous knowledge development, he considers knowledge transfer, mentoring, and the encouragement of younger generations to be essential. In October 2024, he participated as a mentor in the IBM and Budapest University of Technology and Economics “Qiskit Fall Fest 2025” quantum communication competition. Beyond mentoring the teams, he was also involved in the organization of the event, participated as an invited guest in the opening roundtable discussion, and contributed to the jury’s decision-making process.

University Awards
- Gaál József Award (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) – 2024
- Awarded in addition to achieving 1st place at the Faculty Student Scientific Conference (as detailed above)
- The Gaál József Award is an honor established by the Department of Networked Systems and Services (BME-HIT) at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. It is awarded to students demonstrating outstanding performance, in commemoration of the former adjunct professor after whom the award is named. The award is presented within the framework of the Student Scientific Conference (TDK), recognizing the research achievements of young scholars.
- Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania – Maximus Award – 2022
- The Sapientia Maximus Student Award is an annual distinction granted by Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania (EMTE) to recognize the most outstanding students. It is awarded by the Council for Talent Development and Student Scientific Activities.
- Each year, one undergraduate and one master’s student are selected from the graduating cohort based on their academic, scientific, and professional activities over the entire duration of their studies (four or two years). The decision takes into account scientific work, competitions, student scientific conferences, publications, and other evaluations, ensuring that the most deserving graduate receives the recognition.
