In the CRISTAL software project we participate in the development of a scientific workflow management system built on an object oriented database for the assembly of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector of CERN.
The goal of the CRISTAL (Cooperating Repositories and an Information System for Tracking Assembly Life cycles) project is to develop a scientific workflow management system that enables the control of complex manufacturing processes by storing the component and process descriptions in an object oriented database. The CRISTAL system supports the work distribution between local centres according to the changing needs from a single central point. The first working system will control the manufacturing of 110000 PbWO4 monocristals.
