Holodetect: Holographic microscopes for automatic analisys of volumetric samples
Department
Digital holographic microscope technology (Holodetect) and a microscope family was developed by the Computational Optical Sensing and Processing Research Laboratory.
These microscopes can measure liquid (or gas) samples in a flow-throug cell, find, classify and count the organisms or objects appearing in it. This is done by a built-in artificial intelligence-based recognition module which can be retrained efficiently in a short time if new classes need to be distinguished.
Some of these microscopes is equiped with fluorescent detector which measures the autofluorescence of individual algae cells (e.g. chlorophyll, phycocyanin) with different excitations.
Typical applications of the microscopes:
- Automated monitoring of microalgae cultures;
- Environmental monitoring, early detection of algal blooms;
- Drinking water monitoring, detection of sudden changes;
- Quality testing of food products (wine, beer, honey, mineral water);
- Monitoring of industrial waters;
- Monitoring of membrane filters;
- Waste water monitoring;
The microscopes can be used in laboratory and in industrial environments, and can be customized for new application needs.
We have established the Digital Holographic Microscope Laboratory, which operates within HUN-REN SZTAKI. It has received the title of "Excellent Research Infrastructure". Within this framework, we provide measurement services for domestic and international research institutes, universities, and industrial partners. With some elements of the microscope park, we can also perform measurements at external sites or participate in pilot projects.
Holodetect microscope technology is licensed by Holodetect Ltd , a spin-off company of SZTAKI. Holodetect Ltd. manufactures and sales these microscopes and provides professional services with them.
