Development Projects

The goal of the project was the renewal of Hungarian Telekom's internet discussion forum system by migrating data from the existing system. A major requirement for the new system was that it must be able to serve the regularly organised public forums, where workers of Telekom can freely and anonymously ask a manager of Telekom on a specific subject. The designated manager answers questions online in a 1-2 hour interval. The old system was not able to serve such forums due to the huge interest with the potential 12.000 employees of Hungarian Telekom.

CityGuide is a joint project of our Institute with the tourism offices of 3 Hungarian cities (Pécs, Eger and Sopron). The project aims to develop a PDA-based information service for tourists offering a wide range of historic, cultural and practical information. Equipped with a satellite navigation receiver, the PDA guides you to the monument selected and displays information material - text and pictures - as well as acoustic information. When entering a museum, the device leads you through the exhibition and offers explanations about the exhibits.

One of the most VITAL features of factories is their ability of
cooperation, quick responses to changes and disturbances. These are
matters of survival, independent of the size of the firms.
The goal of our project is to research and develop new methods for the
real-time management of complex technical and economical systems that
work in changing, uncertain environments. Since our methods come from
various, novel areas of informatics, operational research and knowledge
based systems, their integration will balance the aspects of

The objective of the program is to prepare reference studies that analyse the results of those research and pilot activities in the courses of which web, digital TV and mobile technology integrating eLearning solutions have been developed. "Ubiquitous learning" is the type of life-long learning that is customized to persons. It is the next generation of electronic learning. It allows easier access to courseware both in the areas of informal and non formal learning and it contributes to ensuring higher mobility for the citizens of Europe.

The gradual deployment of broadband networks throughout the research community and the fact that network capacity grows with much greater rate than CPU power and storage capacity (Moore's Law vs. storage improvements vs. optical improvements) have led to the creation of a distributing environment for sharing resources known as the Grid paradigm. This integrated networking & middleware environment is also called eInfrastructure.

1 Jan 2004– 31 Dec 2008

The EGEE project brings together experts from over 27 countries with the common aim of building on recent advances in Grid technology and developing a service Grid infrastructure which is available to scientists 24 hours-a-day.

The project aims to provide researchers in academia and industry with access to major computing resources, independent of their geographic location. The EGEE project will also focus on attracting a wide range of new users to the Grid.

The project will primarily concentrate on three core areas:

The eLearning project of NIIF ( National Information Infrastructure Development Program ) was initiated with the objective of promoting the wide scale utilisation of eLearning technologies in the education institutions of NIIF using the excellent network infrastructure of NIIF.

The first Hungarian colour film, the "Lúdas Matyi"or Mattie, the Goose-Boy was produced by outstanding Hungarian artists in 1949. As there were not enough copies the film became worn out and already in 1961 it had to be restored for continnous showing in cinemas. More than 5 million people saw the film, which made it one of the 10 most popular films. As the original copies of the film became phisically useless and they lost most of their colours now it was the last minute to begin a new, complete restoration.

1. The goal of the project and the use of the results after finishing the project

The goal of the project is to develop an online plagiarism-search portal that helps both digital libraries to protect their documents, and teachers, professors to find copied work or publications. The portal would also give information about the Hungarian legal issues corresponding to this special field, and would include a discussion forum as well.

The objective of the project Glocalisation is to support one of the promising segments of the Hungarian content industry, the production and "glocalisation" of multimedia-based computer training materials. Glocalisation is a nickname for localising foreign courseware and globalising that is adapting to foreign language environment Hungarian language courseware. In the interest of realizing this objective we developed a SCORM compatible glocalisation system in the framework of the project. The system was tested through a pilot training program.
