Respecters, students and colleagues may have their final goodbyes from Professor Tibor Vámos at an official commemoration in autumn, organized by SZTAKI. Further information about the event will be communicated by the Institute.

Bálint Vanek, deputy head of the Systems and Control Lab of SZTAKI, and leader of the Aerospace Guidance, Navigation, and Control Group, has showcased the research of his laboratory and how its revolutionizing the future of aviation by flexible wings in an introduction video of SZTAKI made for the INCOM 2021 virtual conference.

The Hungarian Artificial Intelligence Coalition held a professional partner day on 15.06., and a public exhibition on 16.06. Demonstrations of the Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI) and other partners of the Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory (MILAB) were on display at the Q building of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

A new textbook titled Advanced Human–Robot Collaboration in Manufacturing has recently been published by Springer, co-edited by József Váncza, head of the Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence, Zsolt Kemény, senior research fellow at the same department, as well as Lihui Wang and Xi Vincent Wang, researchers of the Swedish KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

At the closing ceremony, the Young Author Award was presented to Lucrezia Morabito for her paper titled “A Discrete Event Simulation Based Approach for Digital Twin Implementation”.

The second day of INCOM 2021 begun with a virtual round table panel about the well-known yet rarely debated phase: “data is the new oil”.

The first day of 2021’s virtual INCOM event begun with an opening ceremony, held by Prof. László Monostori, director of SZTAKI. Monostori talked about the Hungarian contributions to IFAC in the past, including the presidency of Prof. Tibor Vámos, founder of SZTAKI, who recently passed away in the age of 94.

Is data the new oil? What is the difference between digital shadows and digital twins? Is there life after deep learning? One may find answers for these questions if joins the virtual INCOM 2021 between 7-9 June.

Fraunhofer Austria and SZTAKI will jointly organize a virtual summer school for engineering master’s students, between the 28th July and the 5th August, 2021. The course is centered around collaborative assembly, with special focus on layout and process planning.

It is with profound sadness that we learned the passing away of Tibor Vámos who certainly considered SZTAKI to be the main work of his life. He passed away on 19 May 2021 at the age of 95.
