Quantum and Supercomputing Platform launched with HUN-REN SZTAKI as a founding member
László Palkovics, Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence, and Árpád Pikéthy, Head of IBM Hungary, jointly announced the launch of the Quantum and Supercomputing Platform at the 16th Infotér conference. The strategically important Platform, of which HUN-REN SZTAKI is a founding member, aims to place Hungary at the forefront of quantum technology and AI.
The founding members of the Quantum and Supercomputing Platform include the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, BME, ELTE, Óbuda University, Dennis Gabor University (DGU) Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Center, HPE, IBM, and other research institutes, universities, and companies, alongside HUN-REN SZTAKI. By orchestrating the national ecosystem and promoting knowledge sharing, joint research can be established, providing a suitable foundation for closer integration into the international quantum research community. As stated during the announcement, the timeliness and purpose of the Platform are further strengthened by the fact that the HunAIFA consortium, established under the strategic leadership of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and led by Róbert Lovas, Deputy Director of HUN-REN SZTAKI, was awarded under the EuroHPC AI Factory Antenna programme. Thanks to this opportunity, Hungary is among the first to access Europe's largest supercomputer.
The ultimate goal of the Platform is to achieve significant national successes at an international level, enabling the establishment of a Hungarian quantum innovation centre, supporting the most advanced domestic research areas in the long term with a quantum computer installed in Hungary.
