József Váncza, Head of the Research Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence, Receives the Rudolf Kálmán Prize
The award was presented by László Monostori, Director of HUN-REN SZTAKI, during the institute’s general assembly held on June 17, 2025. The Rudolf Kálmán Prize is one of the highest professional honors awarded by HUN-REN SZTAKI and recognizes outstanding scientific achievements.
The award is named after Rudolf Kálmán, an electrical engineer and inventor who passed away in 2016. As a child, Kálmán fled with his family to the United States in 1943 to escape World War II, eventually settling there. He graduated from MIT in 1954 and earned his PhD from Columbia University in 1957. Despite receiving the highest honors in the United States and international recognition, he remained proud of his honorary membership in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and his connection to HUN-REN SZTAKI, where he gave several lectures and had an office until his death.
