Simulation modeling of a production line in design phase

In cooperation with Continetal colleagues from Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence have recently closed a successful simulation modeling workshop. Assisted by the laboratory, the project aimed at providing support for the design of a new production line by using simulation modeling.

Applying simulation in the design phase offers a unique opportunity to evaluate the planned operation of production lines before the physical implementation. This approach enables analyzing the effects of possible disturbances early and also allows the integration of disturbance-handling into the design. A hybrid (human-robot-machine) production line with multiple cells were analyzed by using the Tecnomatix Plant Simulation material flow simulation tool. In addition to study the effects of uncertainties in the processing times of the production line, the project succeeded in evaluating the planned standard operation of workers and their workload as well as in assessing the proposed line layout.
