Artificial Intelligence Coalition to form aided by SZTAKI

The Hungarian coalition of artificial intelligence has been established in Balatonfüred. This coalition is the embodiment of Hungary’s answer to the challenges generated by artificial intelligence thus creating a platform for organizations functioning in this field, underlined Hungary’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, László Palkovics. The cooperation was signed by our institution’s director, academic member László Monostori, in the name of both MTA SZTAKI and the National Platform Coalition of IPAR 4.0.

The goal of the cluster coalesced by approximately 70 Hungarian and international companies, universities, scientific workshops, professional and governmental organizations is to ensure a place for Hungary in the frontline of Europe, elevating the country to an important status among the international artificial intelligence community, stated András Levente Gál, technical lead of Digitális Jólét Program on Tuesday, day zero of the three-day long Infótér Konferencia.

Founders of the coalition has aimed to define the overall agenda and framework of AI research done in Hungary. The coalition is both involved in the formation of Hungary’s artificial intelligence strategy and the analytics of social and economy-related effects of AI’s spreading – explained the technical lead. Functioning of the coalition – which has already 20 new applications from additional organizations – is secured by the Digitális Jólét Program, he added.

President of Infótér, Attila Soltész reminded that today’s understanding of artificial intelligence has been around and developing since the 1950s. Work in this filed has high levels of added value, underlined Soltész, adding that the formation of this coalition not only indicates economic advantage but also boosts Hungary’s ability to gain capital and workforce.

“Development led by innovation has waves that may change our world” – said Roland Jakab, requested president of the coalition, regional director of Ericsson. Its important for researchers to control these changes for the most positive outcome, he added. Therefore, it is important to have the reps of the state and market to think together. Technical, legal, and scientific questions raised by AI research may only be answered with continuous cooperation, Jakab explained.

The cooperation was signed by our institution’s director, academic member László Monostori, in the name of both MTA SZTAKI and the National Platform Coalition of IPAR 4.0. Workgroups are built within the coalition; work will be characterized by “true professional sparkling” in the upcoming months – the director put it.
